Back to Basics Boot Camp For Writers!

Facilitator: Karen Lange

Need a refresher course on the rules of writing? Are you clueless about contractions? Spelling got you in a spin? Do you think a homophone is a device to talk on?  Then you're a prime candidate for this fun, four-week class to improve your writing "fitness". We'll cover subject/verb agreement, active vs. passive voice, homophones, contractions, and more! Just because you forgot what your English teacher taught you, doesn't mean you have to produce poor writing. Here's the chance to buckle down and boost your "bottom line" in the process! Enlist today.

Week One –
Basic Building Blocks of Writing

Our opening week will discuss basic building blocks by examining the how, what, and why of words we use, common pitfalls, punctuation for every season and more. These important building blocks provide the structural elements of good sentences, which help make our
writing great.

Week Two –
Keys to Help Our Writing Stay on Track

Week two elaborates further on good structural elements and discusses modifiers, active versus passive voice and transitions. We will also discuss sentence variety, prewriting and other creative tips - all key ingredients to polish for publication.

Week Three –
Keep it Sharp!

Clean, crisp writing is made possible by good word choices, vivid verbs, specific nouns, and well chosen descriptive words. We will discuss writing efficiently using our building blocks and other tools. Tight, but fresh writing is the key to engaging our readers and meeting word counts.

Week Four -
It’s in the Details

Practice makes perfect! The more we work to hone our craft, the better we become. This week will include tips on developing sharp editing eyes and ears, notes on plagiarism, thoughts on tone and style and more. Putting your best writing foot forward is the key to success.
